Bulldogs Grab Two Top Ten Team Finishes At Notre Dame

Seniors Thomas Frazer and Victoria Mitchell led the Butler men's and women's cross country teams to a pair of "Top 10" team finishes at the 49th Annual Notre Dame Invitational held at Burke Memorial Golf Course on Friday, Oct. 1. Butler's men placed third in a 24-team field, while Butler's women came in eighth of 24. Frazer was Butler's lone individual in the "Top 10", finishing eighth in 23:51. Josh Rohatinsky of Brigham Young won the men's 8K race in 23:40, while Notre Dame's Kurt Benninger came in second in 23:43. Butler had two other runners place among the top 20 individuals. Senior Nick Goodliffe came in 16th in 24:01, while senior Andrew Sherman crossed the finish line two seconds later in 19th place. Junior Scott Overall finished 33rd in 24:24, while senior John Frazer rounded out Butler's five-man scoring unit in 38th place in 24:30. Senior Brian Dunn came in 90th in 25:09, junior Bill Peterman was 116th in 25:24 and sophomore Adam Hill finished 118th in 25:28.
Mitchell narrowly missed a "Top 10" finish. She covered the 5K women?s race in 17:04 and crossed the finish line in 11th place. Sara Bei of Stanford won the women's title in 16:22, while Molly Huddle of Notre Dame was second in 16:31. Junior Monica Behney of Butler finished 44th in the race in 17:43, just three seconds ahead of teammate Ava Hutchinson in 47th place. Senior Monika Schneider was 89th in 18:12, while junior Maria Beitel completed Butler's scoring squad with a 94th place finish in 18:18. Freshman Genni Gardner came in 100th in 18:22, followed by first-year runner Jenny Homan in 120th place (18:35). Stanford swept both the men's and women's titles. Notre Dame was runner-up in the men's race, while Michigan finished second in the women's race. |
