Victoria Mitchell Earns All-America Honors

June 12, 2004

Butler's Victoria Mitchell capped a brilliant spring season with an All-American performance at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, June 12. The junior standout earned the national recognition with an eighth place finish in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

Mitchell, in her first season with the Bulldogs, finished the steeplechase finals in 10:18.34. Her time was just over two seconds slower than the result she posted while finishing seventh in the steeplechase preliminaries on Thursday. Ida Nelson of Northern Arizona won the women's steeplechase in 9:48.29.

Last month, Mitchell was named the Outstanding Performer for Running Events at the 2004 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championship after winning three events in the league meet.

Also on Saturday, Butler's Thomas Frazer placed 21st in the men's 5,000 meter run. Frazer completed the race in 15:06.74. The junior from Belfast, Ireland, was the final Butler athlete to compete at the NCAA national meet.
