Scott Overall Places Third At Mini-Marathon

May 6, 2007

Butler senior Scott Overall turned in one of the best performances of his racing career and finished third at the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon held in Indianapolis on Saturday, May 5. Overall was the top Indiana finisher in the race and trailed only two elite runners from Kenya in the final results!

Overall, who was recently named Butler's 2006-07 Male Athlete of the Year, crossed the finish line in 1:04.42, one of just three runners to break 1:05. He trailed individual champ Joseph Chirlee of Kenya by just 38 seconds and runner-up Daniel Cheruiyot of Kenya by 28 seconds.

Butler had two other former runners place among the "Top 20" individuals in the race, the largest half-marathon in the nation. Thomas Frazer came in 19th in 1:09.55, while Paul Howarth finished 20th in 1:11.10. Another former Butler standout, Tim Mylin, came in 35th in 1:15.26.

The race, which included a stretch on the brickyard track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, attracted 35,000 registered competitors.
