Indoor Track Athletes Receive Academic Recognition

April 19, 2006

Continuing his tradition of well balanced student-athletes, head coach Joe Franklin placed three athletes on the Indoor Track and Field Academic All-League Team.

Leading the honorees was sophomore finance major Kent Wories. The Edwardsville, IL native carried a hair-raising 3.96 grade point average throughout the season. In his second year, Wories finished 5th in the league championship over 1 mile, and 10th over 3000 meters.

Another sophomore, Genevieve Gardner, had similar success. The communication-disorder major managed a 3.90 GPA and a second place finish in the mile at the Horizon League championship.

League 3000m champion Katie Stuckey was able to train and compete while maintaining a 3.70 GPA. The senior from Vincennes, IN will graduate this May with a Biology degree.

Now in the outdoor phase, the three will have this weekend off, presumably to study, and return to action the following week at the Cardinal Qualifier in Stanford, or at home at the Stan Lyons meet.
