Butler Records Fall At Cannon IV Classic
Feb. 17, 2003 Junior Becky Lyne continued her strong indoor performance with an individual victory and another school record at the Cannon IV Classic, hosted by Butler on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15. The talented Butler middle distance runner was one of only two Bulldogs to pick up an individual win in the nationally-prominent meet. Lyne captured first place in the 800 meter run in a NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 2:08.74. She had to hurdle two competitors who fell at the 110 meter mark, and she still finished four seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Her time broke the previous Butler indoor 800 record of 2:11.56, set by Rholonda Ash in 2001. Also setting a Butler indoor track and field record at the Cannon IV Classic was freshman sprinter Brandon Cook, who placed seventh in the 200 meter dash in 22.21. He broke his own school record of 22.30, set earlier this spring. Butler's other individual title was turned in by junior Steve Vernon in the 3,000 meter run. Vernon led the field with a time of 8:16.12. The only other Butler competitor to post a "Top Five" individual finish was sophomore Jill Snyder, who placed third in the pole vault with a leap of 10-06. Junior Gary Blackman finished seventh in the 5,000 meter run in 14:28.08. |
