Butler Runners Shine In Two States

May 1, 2007

Senior Andrew Toward picked up Butler's lone individual title at the Stan Lyons Invitational, while senior Vinny Ambrico and junior Darren Gausen both hit national qualifying marks at the Stanford Cardinal Invitational in a busy weekend for Butler's track and field team. The performance of the three runners highlighted a weekend that saw members of the Butler track squad competing in Indiana on Saturday (April 28) and in California on Sunday (April 29).

Toward paced a field of 27 runners at the Stan Lyons Invitational, held at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium in Indianapolis. He posted a winning time of 14:39.60. Freshman teammate Justin Roeder came in third in the race in 14:50.24.

Ambrico, meanwhile, topped the NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:09.86 at the Cardinal Invitational. He placed 14th in the race. Gausen bettered the regional qualifying mark in the men's 1500 meter run with a third place finish in his section in 3:46.77.

Junior Isabelle Stoate, also running in California, finished third in her section of the women's 1500 meter run in 4:33.90. Senior Chris Smith had a 12th place finish in the men's 1500 meter run in 3:55.33.

In Indianapolis, senior Ava Hutchinson captured fourth place in the women's 1500 meter run in 4:43.17.
