UP NEXT: The Butler swimming teams will travel to Illinois-Chicago on Friday, Feb. 1 to face the Flames in a dual meet. The Bulldogs will make a return trip to Chicago at the end of February, as UIC hosts the Horizon League Championships on Feb. 28-Mar. 2.

FINISHING FIFTH: The Butler men's swimming team finished in fifth place at the 2002 Bill Ritter Invitational, hosted by UW-Milwaukee, over the weekend. UW-Green Bay placed first with 1,015.5 points, followed by UW-Milwaukee (962), Illinois State (877), Illinois-Chicago (449), Butler (252) and Marquette (140.50).

MIDDLE OF THE PACK: The Butler women's swimming team finished in the middle of the pack at the Bill Ritter Invitational, taking home a third-place finish. The Phoenix grabbed the top honors with 1,215 points, followed by UWM (907), Butler (461), UIC (401) and Marquette (245).

HAVING A BALL: Senior Brett Balhoff turned in a pair of solid performances at the Bill Ritter Invitational. Balhoff placed fourth in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:21.19 and finished in sixth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.81, just ahead of teammate James Grimmer (4:57.76).

PEAK PERFORMANCE: Sophomore Erin McPeak finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.95, just ahead of teammate Anna Pecharich, who placed fifth in a time of 1:02.54. McPeak also gave her team 13 points for her sixth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, as she touched the wall in 2:15.75.

OFF TO THE RACES: Freshman Carlton Racette took home a sixth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:04.26. He also placed sixth in the 200-yard IM, with a time of 2:02.87.

NOTABLES: Sophomore Stephen Anderson placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.34...freshman Jesse Levknecht grabbed a fifth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.02...Brendan VanCleve finished in fifth position in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:02.92.
