Bulldogs Drop Dual Meet at UIC

Nov. 15, 2003

Complete Results

Junior Carlton Racette swam to individual wins in the 1000-yd. freestyle and 200-yd. individual medley Saturday in a dual meet at Horizon League foe UIC. The Flames defeated the men, 126-77, while the women's team dropped a 134-73 decision to the hosts.

"We are swimming very well for this time of the year," said coach Nichole Ellis. "Our freshmen are getting used to the idea that there are still three more months of training before the big swim at the end of the year at Conference. Our upperclassmen are just grinding on through."

Racette's time of 2:00.80 won the 200-yd. individual medley, while the junior posted a 10:16.49 mark in the 1000-yd. freestyle for a first-place finish. Freshman Raj Duggal won the 500-yd. freestyle in 4:53.14.

On the women's side, senior Catie Scott won the 500-yd. freestyle in 5:17.25, less than a second ahead of the Flames' Laura Martensen.

"We got great performances this weekend from Brendan Van Cleve and Catie Scott," said Ellis. "Brendan is finally starting to see time drops in his individual events and Catie had two great swims. Her normal 200 free was great at Green Bay and then swimming in an off event she swam the 500 Free at UIC and took first."

Both teams turn around and travel to Muncie, Ind., Wednesday for a dual meet against the Cardinals of Ball State. The meet begins at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs are off from competition after Wednesday's meet until Dec. 9.
