Bulldogs Put Up Fast Times Over Weekend
Oct. 20, 2003
Coach Nichole Ellis was very pleased with her team's performances against Evansville and St. Louis this weekend in separate dual matches. "We are swimming faster every meet and that's our goal," said Ellis. "We showed a lot of heart, especially Saturday. Our times were exceptional for this point in the season, especially with how hard we've been training in the past few weeks." Raj Duggal led the men's team, winning the 500-yd. freestyle against Evansville with a time of 4:53.23. The freshman came in second in the same event against St. Louis, posting a time just a second slower. Duggal also placed second in the 1000-yd. freestyle against the Purple Aces at 10:01.16, swimming nearly 17 seconds faster than at last weekend's IUPUI meet.
Other men's times of note over the weekend included Patrick McKenny's 50-yd. freestyle time of 23.21 and Brendan Van Cleve's 56.30 100-yd. backstroke Saturday. The men lost to host Evansville 151-72 Friday and at St. Louis 141-81 Saturday. As for the women's team, Catie Scott won the 100-yd. freestyle in both meets, posting a time of 55.13 at St. Louis. Mary Beth Arnold won the 100-yd. breaststroke twice over the weekend, with her fastest time being 1:11.07 at St. Louis. Freshman Allison Worthington won the one-meter diving competition at Evansville, amassing 224.6 points. She placed second in the same event at St. Louis. Other season bests included Kate Manker's 12:21.65 time in the 1000-yd. freestyle and Cherie Mosher's 200-yd. individual medley time of 2:19.79 and time of 1:13.11 in the 100-yd. breaststroke. Evansville defeated the Bulldogs 165-72, while St. Louis swam past Butler 153-72. Both the men's and women's team will travel to West Lafayette this Saturday for the Purdue Invitational. The meet begins at noon. |
