Feb. 29, 2004
Mary Beth Arnold's time of 2:22.80 in the 200-yd. breaststroke won the event at the Horizon League Championships Saturday at UIC. The time was a lifetime best for Arnold and broke Butler's school record in the event. Arnold's performance was one of many lifetime bests that fell in the final day of the conference's competition.
Freshman Raj Duggal broke a school record with a time of 15:58.21 in the 1650-yd. freestyle. He finished second overall in the event. Junior Brendan Van Cleve posted a time of 1:56.60 in the 200-yd. backstroke, just shy of his own school record. The season-best time placed him seventh in the league. Carlton Racette broke his own school record in the 200-yd. butterfly with a time of 1:55.26.
"I'm really proud of our performance this weekend," said coach Nichole Ellis. "We put up some great times, posting school records and lifetime bests. This is definitely something that our program can build off of." On the women's side, junior Jesse Levknecht posted a lifetime best time of 2:10.19 in the 200-yd. butterfly, finishing fourth overall. Senior Catie Scott finished seventh in the 100-yd. freestyle, posting a season-best time of 53.72 in the prelims earlier Saturday. Other season or lifetime best times were posted by Cherie Mosher (100-yd. freestyle as part of 400-yd. relay and 200-yd. breaststroke), Amy Davis (200-yd. backstroke), Jason Brozek (200-yd. breaststroke), Patrick McKenny (100-yd. freestyle) and Korey McCulley (100-yd. freestyle).
