Bucknell Women Win Detroit Invitational for Second Straight Year

NORTHVILLE, Mich. - The Bucknell women's cross country team came away with a first-place finish overall, late Saturday morning at the Detroit Titan Cross Country Invitational held at Cass-Benton Park. In 2004, the women also came away with the title. The men finished 32 points behind Wayne State, but finished above Detroit for first place in Division I scoring. Leading the way for the Bucknell women and winning the 5K competition was Leanna Nastase, with a time of 18:28 minutes. Nastase has been the Bison's leading runner for two straight weeks of competition this season. Following behind Nasase and finishing second overall was Lauren Bricker (18:36). Bucknell finished three scorers in a row in Erin Cranmer-Hart (18:53, sixth overall), Jenny Stevens (18:58, seventh) and Christa Sawko (19:10, eighth), who picked up the third, fourth and fifth slots for the Bison. In ninth place overall and sixth for the Bison was Gillian Nordquist (19:16), with Mollie Harms shortly behind her in seventh place for the blue and orange (19:35, 11th). Finishing behind Bucknell's 24 points was Wayne State with 53. In Division I scoring, the Bison had 18 points, followed by Detroit (57) and Eastern Michigan (62). On the men's side, Matt Forys led all Bucknell runners with a fifth place finish overall, on the four mile course (15:33). Forys was also the Bison's leading runner last weekend at the Bison open. In ninth overall and finishing second for the blue and orange was Mike Gibney (20:41). Finishing third, fourth, and fifth, and as the final scorers for Bucknell was Chris Norcea (20:58, 13th), Kevin Fortkiewicz (20:59, 14th) and Derrin Pierret (21:01, 15th). Kevin Brown (21:08, 16th), Will Holleran (21:12, 17th) and Ryan Delaney (21:15, 18th) rounded out the Bison top eight. Finishing behind Bucknell's 56 points was Windsor with 83 points and Front Line Racing with 86.
