This Weekend's Women's Water Polo ECAC Championship Schedule Announced

March 28, 2006

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced the pairings and game times for this weekend's women's water polo ECAC Championship Monday. The two-day event will be held at Maryland's Campus Recreation Center Natatorium this Saturday and Sunday. Bucknell, which is the second overall seed in the nine-team field, will play its first game at 10:15 a.m. Saturday against seventh-seeded George Washington.

The Bison, who enter the weekend with a 17-5 record and the third-most wins in program history, will face either third-seeded and host Maryland or sixth-seeded Harvard in their second game Saturday afternoon. The championship game, along with the consolation games that determine the final standings, will be held Sunday.

By entering the weekend as the second seed, Bucknell is favored to post its best-ever finish at the ECAC Championship. The Bison took fifth last year when the event was held at Kinney Natatorium to equal the 1999 squad for the best showing in the seven-year history of the program. Last year Bucknell was seeded fourth out of eight teams.

If the seedings hold true to form, Bucknell will be in position to battle top-seeded and No. 19 in the country Princeton. The Tigers have handed the Bison two of their five losses this season, however, both were by just one goal.

Following this weekend's ECAC Championship, Bucknell returns to league play next weekend. The Bison will play at George Washington and take on Maryland back in College Park, Md., next Saturday, April 8.
