LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Kelliann Doherty's (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) sixth goal of the season brought the Orange and Blue back to within 2-1, but the Bucknell women's soccer team was unable to complete the comeback and saw its league winning streak snapped at four with a 3-1 loss to Lehigh in soggy conditions on Varsity Soccer Field this Friday evening. With the setback, the Bison now sit at 8-7-0 on the season, 4-1-0 in the Patriot League, while the Mountain Hawks move to 7-6-3, 2-2-1 in league contests.

Lehigh controlled much of the play in the first half, outshooting Bucknell, 8-3, for the period and leading in corner kicks, 8-0. However, it took until the 37:09 mark for the Mountain Hawks to capitalize on an opportunity, which was when Jen Fetsick headed in the ball from close range off a quick pass by Lena Cannon.

Then, early in the second half, Fetsick struck again to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 advantage as Liz Carlos found her alone on the left side of the box and she sent a low shot past sophomore goalkeeper Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) for her second of the game and sixth of the season at 50:32.

The Bison fought back with a tally of their own at 55:56 when Doherty drove a hard shot from the middle into Lehigh's net off a feed from freshmen Brooke Stokes (Gladwyne, Pa./The Shipley School) and Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

That would be all for Bucknell, however, despite holding a 12-6 shot advantage after intermission, as Lehigh iced the game in the 82nd minute when a service into the box deflected off a Bison defender and into the top of the goal.

Bucknell finished with a 15-14 edge in shots, while trailing in corner kicks, 11-3. Goalkeepers Julie Kafka and Lauren Mains split time for the Mountain Hawks, posting totals of two and three saves, respectively. Sutton finished with two saves for the Orange and Blue, while junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) made one. Fouls were 9-4, against Lehigh.

The Bison will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 28, with a home match against Lafayette that is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
