Bucknell Wrestling Breaks Into EIWA's Top Eight
Dec. 12, 2006 LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell wrestling team earned the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association's (EIWA) team rankings, which are based on a poll of the EIWA's Rankings Committee, it was announced on Tuesday. Brantley Hooks (Spartanburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes), Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) and Eric Lapotsky (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel Area) all represented the Bison in the individual rankings as well. Six out of the seven teams ahead of the Orange and Blue on the EIWA's team list are currently either ranked or receiving votes in the latest USA Today/InterMat/NWCA national poll. Cornell leads the pack at No. 13 nationally, followed by Penn, who is 14th in the country and No. 22 Harvard, while Lehigh, Columbia and Navy all received votes. Rendos, who is 17th at 165 pounds in the most recent InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Rankings, is fourth on the EIWA list at that weight. He currently holds a team-best record of 13-2 (9-2 duals) and has six wins for bonus points. Lapotsky is tied for the conference lead in pins with eight and is listed fourth in the EIWA at 197. He recently became the second Bison to earn an individual national ranking this season as he was tabbed 30th in the WrestlingReport.com's top-30 at 197 lbs. Lapotsky holds a record of 11-3 and is 8-2 in duals competition, contributing a total of 44 team points, while surrendering just seven to his opponents. Hooks received a No. 6 ranking in the EIWA at 157 pounds and is currently 11-3 overall and 7-2 in duals. Bucknell has posted four straight duals wins and holds a record of 6-5 (2-1 EIWA). The Bison return to action this Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Bloomsburg Duals, where the Orange and Blue will face host Bloomsburg at 9 a.m., and will wrestle Delaware State at 1 p.m. |
