Bucknell Men's Tennis Continues With Day Two At UConn

STORRS, Conn. - The Bucknell men's tennis team opened singles action at the UConn Invitational on Saturday. Junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) led the way for the Bison, making it to the quarterfinal for Flight 2 singles and Flight 4 singles, respectively. Sandburg had a bye in the first round and went on to defeat Robert Ferrante (4-6,6-3, 10-7) in the next round. He dropped the quarterfinal match to Jared Dorfman (3-6, 7-5, 10-7). Brenner opened the day with a win against Nick Mazzerese (6-0, 6-1) in the first round. He went on to defeat Ian Terpilowski (6-2, 6-1) to make the quarterfinal round, but dropped the match (6-3, 6-4) to Greg Marks. In Flight 5 singles, freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) defeated Chip Palumbo in the first round (6-0, 6-3) and fell to Christian Malerba in the next round, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8. For the Bison in Flight 6 singles, freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Canada/Milton Academy-Mass.) picked up a win in the first round against Glen Gannon (5-7, 6-1, 10-4) and dropped his next match to Nocholas Pisecky of Marist (6-2, 6-3). On Friday, Bucknell opened the weekend with doubles action. In Flight 1 doubles, Bucknell's team of senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Canada/Milton Academy (Mass.) and the Bison duo of junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and Brennner made the semifinal round, to be played on Sunday. The UConn Invitational will wrap up on Sunday. |
