Bucknell's Adam Lord Named to AFCA All-America Team
Dec. 19, 2001 WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bucknell junior defensive lineman Adam Lord (Troy, N.Y./Troy H.S.) has been named to the American Football Coaches Association Division I-AA All-America team, the AFCA announced Wednesday. The AFCA has been selecting All-America teams since 1945 and currently selects teams in all four divisions. It is the only All-America team chosen exclusively by head coaches. Lord is Bucknell's seventh AFCA All-American and its fourth in the last six years. He follows in the footsteps of linebacker Larry Schoeneberger (1974), offensive tackle Mike McDonald (1980), safety Mike Augsberger (1990), linebacker Brandon Little (1996), linebacker Willie Hill (1997) and safety Kevin Eiben (2000). Lord was recently named Bucknell's 2001 Most Valuable Player after a terrific junior season anchoring the Bison's defensive line. A First Team All-Patriot League selection and a finalist for Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Lord finished the season with 42 tackles, more than a third (16) of which came in the opponent's backfield. He registered five sacks, forced a fumble and recovered another. Lord was also named to the First Team All-ECAC defensive squad this week. The Bison ranked fifth nationally in yards allowed (260.1), eighth in rushing yards allowed (89.3), 11th in points allowed (15.7), third in fumble recoveries (20) and seventh in turnovers forced (34). Bucknell did not allow a 100-yard rusher all season and boasted the Patriot League's top-ranked defense. The Orange and Blue allowed only eight offensive touchdowns in the last 33 quarters of the season. Five of the 12 players named to the First Team All-Patriot League defensive unit came from Bucknell. Lord and Lehigh wide receiver Josh Snyder were the only two Patriot League players represented on the AFCA All-America Team, bringing the league's total to 29, eighth-most among all Division I-AA conferences. Joining Lord on the All-America defense are defensive linemen Josh Jeffries of Appalachian State, Travis White of St. Mary's (Calif.) and Clenton Ballard of Southwest Texas, linebackers Tracy White of Howard, Dustin Wilson of Austin Peay and Robert Taylor of Grambling, and defensive backs Yeremiah Bell of Eastern Kentucky, Mel Mitchell of Western Kentucky, Leigh Bodden of Duquesne and Keith Davis of Sam Houston State. Lord is one of only six underclassmen on the All-America offense, defense or special teams units. |
