Revamped Lewisburg Touchdown Club Luncheons to Kick Off Tuesday

Sept. 3, 2001

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The "new-look" Lewisburg Touchdown Club will hold its first weekly luncheon of the fall on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at its new location, the Lewisburg Hotel.

The Lewisburg Touchdown Club was founded years ago to be a true vehicle to recognize the sport of football in the Susquehanna Valley, through the efforts of local businesses and area high schools, the 2001 luncheons will represent a return to those roots. Each Tuesday throughout the Bucknell football season (a total of 11 weeks), the Lewisburg Touchdown Club will hold weekly luncheons at the Lewisburg Hotel located at 136 Market Street.

As in recent years, Bucknell head coach Tom Gadd will introduce his team's players of the game and comment on the state of the Bison and that week's opponent. For the first time this season, a high school player of the week will be recognized, and a select high school coach will have an opportunity to address the audience.

The luncheons will be hosted by Doug Birdsong, "The Voice of the Bison," and will also feature ticket giveaways courtesy of the Bison Club.

Local high schools participating this season are Central Columbia, Danville, Hughesville, Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, Milton, Montgomery, Montoursville, Muncy, Selinsgrove, Shikellamy, South Williamsport, Southern Columbia and Warrior Run.

The dates for the luncheons are as follows: Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov. 6, 13.

The luncheons are intended to be a useful tool for the media to conduct interviews with coaches and players from both Bucknell and the represented high school. All members of the media will be admitted free of charge.

The Lewisburg Hotel is located at 136 Market Street in downtown Lewisburg.
