Bison Grid Quartet Named to Preseason All-America Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Standout running back Jabu Powell heads a list of four Bucknell players named to Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette's Preseason All-America Team. Powell, a third-team selection, joins honorable mention choices Jason Marrow, Tom Kuhn and Chris Lundberg.

The annual preseason list honors the top performers in the Division I-AA ranks. Bucknell's four selections tied Colgate for the most among the eight Patriot League teams.

One of the league's most explosive offensive talents, Powell rushed for 1,102 yards last season, the sixth-highest total in school history. He set team and conference records with a 282-yard ground effort in a 38-15 rout of Cornell and finished the year ranked first in the league and 13th in Division I-AA with an all-purpose average of 160.1 yards per game. The senior enters his final season in Lewisburg ranked fifth on Bucknell's all-time rushing list with 2,246 yards.

A bruising senior fullback, Marrow looks forward to a return to the lineup after missing all but the first two games of the 2000 season with a fractured fibula. The injury was particularly devastating considering Marrow's brilliant 1999 season, when he scored 102 points (17 touchdowns), the most by a Bucknell player in 70 years. Marrow copped the "Big Blue Award" as the team's most outstanding back or receiver, as he rushed for 537 yards on 133 carries. He currently ranks fourth on Bucknell's all-time scoring list with 180 career points.

A Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2000, Kuhn is one of the conference's top returning defensive linemen. The fifth-year senior had 28 tackles, four sacks and eight tackles for loss in nine games last season. Kuhn, who missed his freshman (1997) season with a knee injury, was voted Bucknell's top defensive linemen a year ago.

Lundberg returns for his junior campaign as one of the league's steadiest placekickers. A second team all-conference choice a year ago, Lundberg connected on a school-record 13 field goals in 17 tries. He booted a career-long 47-yarder in a 27-13 win over Fordham, one of three successful boots on the day. Following the season Don Hansen's publication cited Lundberg as an honorable mention All-American.

Bucknell opens its 116th season of football on Sept. 8 at Kent State.
