Bucknell's Farmery Named Patriot League Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Collegiate Baseball

Jan. 16, 2002

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University relief pitcher Gregg Farmery has been named as the Patriot League Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Collegiate Baseball. In addition, the Bison were selected to finish second in the Patriot League in Collegiate Baseball's preseason poll conducted by collegiate coaches.

Farmery finished with a 3-1 record and a 1.61 ERA in 28.0 innings pitched as the Bison's closer last season. He also established Bucknell single-season records in both saves (seven) and appearances (22), and was a First-Team All-Patriot League selection for the second year in a row.

Pitchers Chris Lackett and Zachery Allen were tabbed as "Other Top Players to Watch" by Collegiate Baseball. Lackett, a junior, finished 6-3 with 37 strikeouts and a 6.29 ERA as the team's No. 2 starter last year. He was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team. Allen went 5-4 with 30 strikeouts and a 4.40 ERA - the lowest of any of the Bucknell starting pitchers.

Bucknell, the 2001 Patriot League tournament champion, was picked to finish second in the Patriot League behind last season's regular season champion, Navy. The Bison finished the 2001 season with a 31-19 (14-6 Patriot League) record, and tied the school record for single-season victories. Army was predicted to finish third, followed by Holy Cross, Lafayette, and Lehigh.

Navy shortstop Jake Miller was selected as Collegiate Baseball's Preseason Player of the Year.

Bucknell plays its 2002 season opener on Feb. 16 with a doubleheader at Virginia. The Bison will take on Cornell in the team's home opener on March 2.
