Sept. 8, 2006 Boston, MA - The women's cross country team traveled to Franklin Park to compete in the Boston University Invitational this afternoon. The Bears had a strong showing at their first meet of the season, placing ahead of Boston University, University of Rhode Island, and Northeastern University with a score of 27 points. Junior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) finished first for the Bears, and second overall in 17:55. Freshman Jenna Ridgway (Santa Barbara, CA) followed close behind in fourth place with a time of 18:24 in her first race for Brown. Junior Alex Brown (Kingston, NY), sophomore Lindsay Kahn (Port Jefferson, NY), and freshman Brooke Giuffre (Carlsbad, CA) all finished within four seconds of each other to round off the top five positions for Brown and finish sixth, seventh, and eighth overall. Junior Becky Crossin (Annandale, NJ) finished sixth for Brown in fifteenth place, with Colleen Brogan (Haddonfield, NJ) close behind in seventeenth for her collegiate debut. The Bears will look to continue to dominate as a team in their next race, the Quinnipiac Invitational on Friday, September 22.
