Senior Kelly Coppedge scored seven goals to lead the third-ranked Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 21-6 victory over Brown. The loss drops Brown to 1-1 overall, while Maryland extended its record to 4-2.
Coppedge scored her first two goals in a 5-0 Maryland run to open the game, including a goal at 20:42 that gave Maryland a 5-0 advantage. Coppedge went on to score three more times in the first half as the Terrapins grabbed an 11-3 lead at the half.
Brown came out fighting in the second half, getting goals from senior Emily Blanton, junior Sarah Passano and sophomore Kate Staley to narrow the Maryland lead to 12-6. But the Terrapins held Brown scoreless the rest of the way to gain the 21-6 victory.
Brown junior goalie Julia Southard made 12 saves for the Bears, while Maryland goalie Kirah Miles registered 10 saves.
The Bears will be back in action on Sunday, March 14, at home against Colgate. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
