The Brown women's indoor track and field team captured first place at the 2001 Heptagonal Championship held this weekend at Harvard University. The Bears finished with a total of 120 points, while Harvard took second with 110 and Yale came in third with 88 points. Nine teams competed in the event.

Junior Amber Knighten (Alta Loma, CA) was the only Bear to take first place in an event on Sunday, taking home her third consecutive Indoor title in the shot put with a distance of 14.87 meters. Senior Lindsay Taylor (Boone, NC) had another stellar day after winning the pentathlon on Saturday, as she placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74 and third in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters.

Senior Sara Tindall (Stanton, NJ) took second place in both the 3,000-meter run and the mile run, finishing in times of 9:34.37 and 4:55.10, respectively. Junior Kim Thalmann (Holliston, MA) came in right behind Tindall in the 3,000-meter run, placing third in 9:38.13.

In the 60-meter dash, Claudine Compas (Great Neck, NY) captured third in 7.86 seconds, while Konique Ballah (Cranston, RI) took third in the 400-meter run in 57.72 seconds.

The women are back in action next weekend when they compete in the ECAC Championships in Boston.
