March 20, 2006 Houston, TX - Senior All-Ivy/All-American Ruth Schneider finished in 24th place in women's epee at the recently completed NCAA National Fencing Championships, hosted by Rice University in Houston. Schneider, fencing in her last collegiate meet, was Brown's sole representative at the Championships. According to Brown Head Fencing Coach Atilio Tass, Schneider - coming off a 5th place finish at the highly competitive NCAA Northeast Regional Championships - had higher expectations for the meet. However, momentum at Nationals simply did not go Schneider's way over the course of the two-day women's epee event. Although this tournament didn't go quite as expected, Schneider still ends her Brown fencing career as one of most successful fencers ever to represent the Bears. Highlights of Schneider's achievements in the women's epee event include: Three-time qualifier to NCAA National Championships: Three-time gold medalist (2003-2005) at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Championships 2006 First Team All-Ivy - 13-5 (.722) record against Ivy League fencing opponents in 2006. Brown's first-ever All-Ivy honoree "Ruth demonstrated tremendous ability, dedication and leadership during her fencing career at Brown," said Coach Tass. "She has been a consistently strong force in collegiate women's epee in both the region and the nation."
