Cook Scores Twice As Women's Soccer Advances Past UNH, 2-1

Game Summary

BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team defeated the University of New Hampshire, 2-1, on Friday night at Nickerson Field to advance to the 2003 America East Women's Soccer Championship. The Terriers move on to face the University of Maine in the title game on Sunday at 1 p.m., also at Nickerson.

Boston University's Lauren Erwin created the Terriers' first half score as she blasted a shot at Liz MacKay, New Hampshire's goalie. MacKay made a solid save on Erwin's shot, but allowed a settling rebound that was gathered by Boston University's Meghann Cook. Charging the net, Cook fired the ball past a diving MacKay and into the back of the net to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead at the 28:19 mark.

New Hampshire's Jackie Wishoski, the America East scoring leader, tied the game at 1-1 at 63:01. Wishoski took a pass from fellow sophomore Erin Margentino and blasted her sixth goal of the league championship past the Terriers' Jessica Clinton.

Cook would strike again for the Terriers with just 4:43 remaining in the game, this time recording the game-winning goal. America East Offensive Player of the Year Melissa Shulman assisted on Cook's second score.

The Terriers will attempt to win their third America East crown in the last four years on Sunday when they face Maine. Boston University, which won conference championships in 2000 and 2001, improves to 12-5-4 on the season. New Hampshire's season comes to an end with a final mark of 8-9-4.
