Women's Soccer Announces 2007 Schedule

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s soccer team and head coach Nancy Feldman are pleased to announce their 2007 schedule, highlighted by the season-opening Doubletree Guest Suites Terrier Invitational, which will feature Stanford, UConn and Princeton. In all, the Terriers will face four NCAA 2006 tournament teams.

The Terriers will open the season on Friday, Aug. 31, against Pac-10 opponent Stanford, which reached the NCAA third round and finished 16th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) final poll, and will face Ivy League foe Princeton two days later in the kick-off tournament at Nickerson Field. The Cardinal and Tigers will also face Big East competitor UConn in the weekend tourney.

“Opening the season with the Boston University Doubletree Invitational and bringing in three other prestigious teams is a great opportunity for our program to showcase some of the best women’s soccer teams in the country to our fan base,” Feldman said. “It also provides us a chance for a rematch against Stanford, who beat us last year in its early season tournament out in California two days after we had knocked off then-No. 3 Santa Clara.”

Other high points of the schedule will include games against cross-town rival Boston College, which finished 11th in the 2006 NSCAA, UW-Milwaukee and defending America East champion Hartford – all NCAA tournament teams from 2006.

BU will continue its non-conference slate in September with the Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 9, against UW-Milwaukee and host school Wisconsin. The team will return to Boston on Sept. 12 for the first of three road matches, beginning with ACC member BC and followed by Ivy League opponents Harvard and Brown.

“With out-of-conference games against Boston College, Dartmouth, Brown and Yale we have four out of the top six or seven regionally ranked opponents and possible NCAA postseason tournament teams,” continued Feldman.

The Terriers will return to the confines of Nickerson Field, where they have gone unbeaten in 19 consecutive games, on Sept. 21 to host Minnesota. They will face Yale on Sept. 25 before opening America East action on Sept. 30 versus Vermont.

“There is more parity in our conference than any other year that I can remember,” said Feldman. “With two teams going to the NCAAs last year, and a third, Maine, being very deserving, it will be a great challenge to win both the regular season and conference championship this coming fall, but that is our goal.”

In addition to hosting the Catamounts, their home conference schedule will feature UMBC, Hartford and Binghamton, while they will hit the road to take on Maine, Stony Brook and UNH.

The Terriers will aim to recapture the America East crown when the conference tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 1.
