Women's Soccer Announces 2006 Recruiting Class



The Boston University women’s soccer program announces its 2006 recruiting class and would like to introduce eight players that will be joining the Terrier squad next fall:

Brown was a four-year letterwinner for coach Lisa Wilkins at Natick HS… as a senior, scored 17 goals and had 10 assists… NHS advanced to the Division I South semifinals for the first time in school history despite entering the tournament as the 20th seed… named all-New England as a senior… team MVP as a junior and as a senior… two-time MetroWest Daily News all star selection… Boston Herald all-Scholastic as a senior… in final high school game, scored her first career hat trick… team captain as a junior and a senior… as a junior, had 10 goals and seven assists… as a sophomore scored 10 goals and added nine assists… as a freshman, had 12 goals and six assists… leading scorer and NHS Rookie of the Year as a freshman… three-time Bay State League all-star… two-time Herget top-five player… two-time EMASS all-star… was a three-year starter at point guard on the basketball team and was a three-time Bay State League all star… two-year starter and team captain on lacrosse team as well… played ODP ball for the South Coast Scorpions (2000-05)… named to Super Y League Regional team… PERSONAL: born on June 13, 1988, in Newton, Mass… daughter of Tim and Sandy Brown… aspires to be a teacher/coach or the host of her own talk show.

 

Coach Feldman says: “The thing that stuck out to us about Casey is her mentality, her passion to excel and her competitiveness.  On top of that, she is a really terrific multi-sport athlete and a confident and vocal leader.  We think she has the ability to make a contribution in the midfield or the back for our program over the next four years and we know she will bring a winning mentality to our team.”

 

Emily Pallotta – 5-7 – MF – Andover, Mass. (Andover HS)

Pallotta was a four-year letterwinner for coaches Meghan Lynch and Dick Loschi at Andover High School… she finished her career with 39 goals and 57 assists… set the school record for single-season assists with 21… team captain… four-time Merrimack Valley All-Conference honoree… Merrimack Valley MVP as a junior and senior… four-time member of EMASS all-star team… named all-state as a sophomore, junior and senior… all-New England and Adidas all-region as a junior and senior… Boston Herald all-Scholastic as a junior and senior… team MVP as a senior… Scholastic All-American as a senior… National Honor Society as a junior and senior… earned school’s Excellence in History and Excellence in English as a freshman, sophomore and junior… four-year letterwinner in basketball where AHS won state title her freshman year… two-year starter and captain and a Merrimack Valley all-star in hoops… ran track as a freshman and won the Merrimack Valley championship in the 800 meters, while finishing third in state… played on Massachusetts state ODP teams from 2000-05… PERSONAL: born on May 13, 1988, in Winchester, Mass… daughter of Andy and Kathy Pallotta… aspires to be a coach and a history teacher or possibly a career in business.

 

Coach Feldman says: “Emily is one of the top high school senior players in the state of Massachusetts and we are excited that she chose BU to continue her playing career.  Her work ethic, desire to compete and passion for the game are evident every time she steps on the field.   She has a motor that does not quit, and will be a personality player for our program over the next four years.”

 

Shauna Kelleher – 5-5 – MF – Canton, Mass. (Fontbonne Academy)

Kellener was a four-year letterwinner for coach Paul Piotrowicz at Fontbonne Academy… team captain as a junior and a senior… scored 103 career points (54 goals, 49 assists), becoming the only player in school history to eclipse the 100-point barrier… 14 goals and 15 assists as a senior… career-bests of 16 goals and 16 assists as a sophomore… led team in scoring in each of her four years… named Eastern Masschusetts All-Star, as well as all-state and all-New England as both a junior and a senior… Patriot Ledger and Boston Herald all-Scholastic as a junior and senior, and Boston Globe all-Scholastic as a senior… named Mary Beth Santry Award winner as top schoolwide athlete as a senior… played on Massachusetts ODP team for four years (2001-05)… club team (South Coast Scorpions) won state title in 2001 and 2005… squad was 2005 sub-regional champs in Region One League… was a member of National Spanish Honor Society as a junior… was the sports editor for the school yearbook… four-year honor student at Fontbonne… PERSONAL: born on December 15, 1988, in Newton, Mass… daughter of Jean and Michael Kelleher… will enroll in College of General Studies at BU, but major is undecided… aspires to have a career with some flexibility so someday she can raise her children.

 

Coach Feldman says: “Shauna is one of four talented Massachusetts players that will be joining our team next fall.  She is a technically gifted soccer player who has a creative attacking flair.  She plays with an enthusiasm and love for the game that is contagious.  She also has the ability to score and set up goals and will be a valuable addition to our program during her career.” 

 

Farrell McClernon – 5-4 – F – West Chester, Pa. (Merion Mercy Academy)

Farrell was a four-year letterwinner for coaches Walt Timby and Pete Dunn at Merion Mercy Academy… two-year captain and two-time team MVP… named to Main Line Times all-star team four times and was also a four-time all-Catholic Academies selection… named Catholic Academies all-star as a senior… lead her team in assists in each of her four seasons as the starting center mid… also led team in goals as a senior… also played basketball in high school and was a two-year letterwinner in track and field… played for ODP state team for five years, and traveled to France and Ireland with the squad… also played for club team, INC United Predators… member of the National Honor society and a Distinguished Honors Student… four-year member and two-year leader of Community Service Corps… PERSONAL: born on April 1, 1988. in Bryn Mawr, Pa… daughter of Lisa and Kevin McClernon… is enrolled in BU’s School of Management.

 

Coach Feldman says: “We are thrilled to have a player with Farrell’s ability to score and set up goals coming into our program next fall.  She has competed at a high level over the last few years with both her premier club and her Olympic Development experiences.  She is an outgoing, gregarious and fun loving personality that we look forward to having on our team.” 

 

Corie Halasz – 5-8 – F/D – Milford, Conn. (Lauralton Hall)

Halasz was a four-year letterwinner for coach Luke Meadows at Lauralton Hall… as a freshman, scored 16 goals and had 13 assists; as a sophomore, recorded 21 goals and 11 assists; as a junior, tallied 17 goals and five assists; and as a senior, had 24 goals and five assists… career prep totals were 78 goals and 34 assists… four-time Connecticut Post  all-Area selection… team captain as a senior… three-time All-State selection… New Haven Register All-Area and All-State as a sophomore and a junior… four-time selection to first-team all-league… earned Coaches’ Award (team MVP) all four seasons… as a senior scored a hat trick in three consecutive games… named Greater New Haven Soccer Officials Association Female Soccer Player of the Year… club team was South Central Premier… squad was a finalist at 2005 Connecticut Open Cup and won the Nordic Cup (2005)… played for ODP team from 2002-05 and squad was a national finalist in 2004… earned HS Spanish Award and named to Honor Roll and National Honor Society… PERSONAL: born on August 8, 1988, in Bridgeport, Conn… daughter of Theresa and Laszio Halasz… enrolled in Sargent School at BU.

 

Coach Feldman says: “Corie is a versatile and talented soccer player.  She has the athletic and technical gifts to play a variety of positions and may be asked to make a contribution as a back, midfielder or forward.  She is confident on the ball, and has the skill to provide the team with another attacking presence on the flank.  She is a great personality and will be an outstanding asset to our program for years to come."

 

Janie Reilly – 5-8 – GK – Coral Springs, Fla. (St. Thomas Aquinas HS)

Reilly was a four-year letterwinner for coach Carlos Giron at St. Thomas Aquinas HS… as a freshman, had a 0.34 GAA; as a sophomore, had a 0.00 GAA; as a junior, had a 0.50 GAA; and as a senior, had a 0.24 GAA and recorded 22 shutouts… St. Thomas Aquinas was ranked number one in the nation in 2004 and won the Florida State Championship in 2004 and 2005… as a junior and a senior, was named first team all-county by Sun Sentinel  and Herald and was also named first team all-state… tied national HS record for best GAA in a season (0.00) as a junior… holds school record for most shutouts in one season (22), as a senior… team captain of club team, which was six-time Florida state champs and 2004 Southern Regional champs… ODP 2004 Region III pool player and 2005-06 Region III team member… 2006 NSCAA Youth All-American… academically, won the St. Thomas Aquinas Service Award (2004-05) and Principal Honors (2004-06)… PERSONAL: born on January 13, 1988, in Hollywood, Fla… daughter of Patrick and Lauren Reilly… enrolled in College of Arts and Sciences at BU.

 

Coach Feldman says: “A regional caliber goalkeeper, there is no doubt that Janie is one of the best keepers coming out of the entire southern region.  She is another of our incoming recruits who has played at a high level of competition with the ODP program.  We are thrilled to be adding a player of her caliber to continue the great tradition of talented netminders that have played in goal for our program these last 10 years.  We expect goalkeeping to be a strength for us next fall, and she makes the position even deeper.”

 

Mikaela Hansen – 5-5 – DF – West Newton, Mass. (Newton North HS)

Hansen was a three-year letterwinner for coach Brian Rooney at Newton North HS… team captain as a senior… Bay State Division I All-Star as a junior and as a senior… named Daily News Tribune All-Star in 2004 and 2005… scored on goal and had two assists as a freshman… one assist as a sophomore; one assist as a junior, but helped team record 12 shutouts… three goals, two assists as a senior, and team recorded 15 shutouts… named Marilyn Murphy Team-Above-Self award winner in 2002… also played hockey in high school, where she was team captain and Bay State All-Star as a senior and Most Improved Player as a junior… also named Most Improved on lacrosse team in 2003… club team was South Coast Scorpions, and also played for Boston Bolts (2003-05) in the Region I Premier League…. PERSONAL: born on May 27, 1988, in Newton, Mass… daughter of Mark and Linda Hansen… enrolled in General Studies at BU and aspires to be a school guidance counselor.

 

Coach Feldman says: “Mikaela is the epitome of a hard working, determined and physical defender.  She is very good at winning balls in the air. She will be an asset to our program because of both the tangible and intangible characteristics that she brings, including her positive attitude and team-first mentality.”

 

Laura Schwartz – 5-7 – D – Santa Cruz, Calif. (Santa Cruz HS)

Schwartz was a four-year letterwinner for coach Jay Gomez at Santa Cruz HS… team captain as a junior and as a senior, and both years was named SCCAL first team All-League… team advanced to CCS semifinals in 2004 and 2005… earned SCCAL all-league honors as a sophomore and as a freshman… as a freshman, team won CCS title… scored four goals and had 10 assists during prep career… best season came as a senior, when she scored three goals and notched five assists… named to SCHS Honor Roll with a 4.33 cumulative GPA… president of Women’s Honor Society… team captain of club team, the DeAnza Force… named to Cal North State Pool in 2005 for ODP… in 2004, played for Cal North District II and was part of U17 Far West Select team… also played on Cal North District II ODP team in 2002-03… PERSONAL: born on August 4, 1988, in Berkeley, Calif… daughter of James Schwartz and Noreen Pera-Schwartz… plans to study Environmental Analysis and Policy at BU… aspires to become an environmental consultant, a lawyer or a veterinarian.

 

Coach Feldman says: “Laura is another of a long list of former team captains in this year’s incoming class.  She has a great presence and plays with poise and composure.  She is a confident and vocal teammate, and her soccer intelligence is very high.  She has been committed to becoming the best player she can be over the years, and we feel her best soccer is ahead of her.”
