Alumni Game Concludes Successful Weekend for Women's Soccer

The Boston University women’s soccer team completed a successful weekend of competition, defeating Providence 2-1 in an exhibition game on Saturday and enjoying a tremendous turnout at the alumni game on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Terriers downed the Friars 2-1 in Providence to improve to 3-0-2 in their spring exhibition season.

Freshman Marisha Schumacher-Hodge opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes of the match, taking a pass from Lauren Erwin in the penalty box and beating the Providence goalkeeper with a low shot.

Providence tied the match midway through the first half, before Lauren Basham scored the game-winning goal unassisted with approximately 15 minutes to go in the first half.  She dribbled toward the penalty box before driving a shot from about 20 yards away.  The ball hit off the right post before going into the goal.

Christina Reuter played in goal the second half and was tested with a few shots that she handled to preserve the win for BU.

On Sunday, 23 former BU players – both varsity and club-level (pre-1995) attended the annual alumni game at Nickerson Field. The contest was a fun exhibition, and the Class of 2004 exhibited the best school spirit when 100% of the graduated seniors made an appearance (Rebecca Beyer, Leslie Garvey, Emily Dionne, Katie Chen and Jessica Clinton).

The Terriers conclude their 2006 spring exhibition season on Wednesday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m., when they take on the professional Boston Renegades at Nickerson Field.
