Women's Golf Places Second at MA State Championships; Sixth at Jack Leaman Intercollegiate

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Boston University women's golf team placed second at the Mass State Invitational on Friday, April 20 with a two-day team total of 352.  Junior Dierdre Hatfield was BU's top finisher tying for sixth place (42-42--84). Following their strong performance at the MA State Invitational, the Terriers placed sixth at the Jack Leaman Intercollegiate Golf Championship on Sunday, April 22. The Terriers shot 342-358--700 over the two day tournament. Freshman Kaitlyn Mardeusz was BU's top golfer, finishing 12th out of 79 golfers with a 79-87--166.

Mardeusz had one of her best career outings with two top-10 finishes. Her first came in the MA State Championship on Friday as the freshman finished ninth overall (43-44--87). Along with Hatfield and Mardeusz, sophomore Lauren Stong finished in a three-way tie for 10th with a 43-46--89.

Allison Hamilton (46-46--92) and Carly Sherwood (46-50--96) completed the field for the Terriers.

On Saturday, BU competed in the Jack Leaman Invitational, landing in fourth after day one and sixth once competition was completed on Sunday. This time, Mardeusz led the way for the Terriers with a 12th place finish in a 79-player field.

Also placing for the Terriers were Allison Hamilton in 15th (85-83--168), Lauren Stong in 35th, Carley Sherwood in 48th and Onike Williams.

Statistically, Hamilton was ninth in par-4 scoring (4.63, +10). In addition, Mardeusz was seventh in pars (18) and 11th in par-5 scoring (5.27, +3).

The Terriers tee-off at the America East Championships on Saturday, May 5 and will conclude on Sunday, May 6.
