After Big Win Over NU, Rossi, Spuehler Earn America East Weekly Honors
BOSTON - Boston University senior forward Kara Rossi (North Salem, N.Y./North Salem) and freshman forward Pam Spuehler (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) have been named America East Field Hockey Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Each scored a goal in B.U.'s 2-0 victory over Northeastern on Sunday, Oct. 24, helping the Terriers clinch the No. 1 seed in the America East Field Hockey Championship on Nov. 5 and 7. Along with securing the No. 1 seed in the conference championship, the win also allows B.U. to serve as the host school for the tournament. The Terriers open tourney play, against the fourth-seeded team (as of yet undetermined) at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5 at MIT's Jack Barry Field in Cambridge, Mass. The second and third seeded teams open at 11 a.m. The finals will be on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Rossi led the Terriers to their biggest win in her four years at B.U., scoring the game-winning goal and leading the team with four shots in the victory over NU. In the Terriers' 7-1 win at America East foe University at Albany on Friday, Oct. 22, Rossi contributed with a goal and an assist, giving her five points on the weekend. Spuehler scored the Terriers' second goal in the win over NU. She took four shots in the game. In the win at Albany, she took two shots. It is the first weekly award for Rossi in her four-year career. As a freshman, she was named to the America East All-Rookie Team. She also earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team as a sophomore. Spuehler, along with classmate Sarah Shute (Lincolnville, Maine / Somers [N.Y.]), has been among the league's top freshmen. She earned the Rookie of the Week award for the third time this season. She also got the nod on Sept. 27 and Oct. 11. Shute has been named the top freshman on Sept. 20 and Oct. 4. The Terriers wrap up their regular-season schedule with a non-conference game against Harvard at Jack Barry Field on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. and the conference finale at New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
