CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior Hayley Hamada turned in a career day, recording a natural hat trick and adding an assist to help the Boston University field hockey team post a 7-0 shutout victory over Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. Junior Sarah Shute added two goals and an assist as the Terriers improved to 10-6 on the year.

Hamada scored the first three goals of the game and added an assist on the Terriers' fifth tally. The junior entered the game having scored just two goals on the year.

The Terriers held a dominating 22-4 advantage in shots and scored on seven of their 12 shots on goal.

Just over a minute after the opening whistle, BU forced a turnover and sent the ball upfield to Hamada, who raced ahead of the defense with only Dartmouth goalkeeper Ashley Heist to beat. Heist came out of the cage and got a piece of the ball to force Hamada to the right. However, the move left open a wide-open cage, which Hamada took full advantage of at the 1:35 mark.

Under 13 minutes later, an entry ball from the right side was tipped by Shute at the near post. The ball bounced parallel to the goal line to the left post, where Hamada was positioned to knock in her second goal of the game.

Hamada completed the natural hat trick in the 32nd minute when she collected a rebound off a saved shot by freshman Suus Dekker and pushed the ball to the boards.

After entering the break with a 3-0 advantage, the Terriers put the game away in the 43rd minute, scoring two goals just 41 seconds apart.

Off a restart, the Terriers used two quick passes to move the ball across the field to sophomore Lizzie Perreault, who dribbled to the outer edge of the circle before placing a perfect pass to Shute's stick in the middle of the circle. The junior striker paused before spinning away from a defender and sending the ball to the back of the cage from four yards out for her 10th goal of the season.

Moments later, Hamada penetrated the circle from the right side before sending a pass to classmate Pam Spuehler, who redirected the ball to the boards for her third tally of the season.

Dekker, who scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime triumph at Albany on Saturday, registered her third goal of the weekend at the 51:54 mark when she blasted a shot through traffic from just inside the circle. The ball bounced past goaltender Jordan Sedlacek, who played the entire second half, to make it a 6-0 contest.

Shute capped the scoring with an impressive individual effort with just under seven minutes left in regulation. She forced a turnover deep in the Big Green zone and dribbled into the circle before firing to the boards from seven yards out.

Graduate netminder Erin Prediger made one save to earn her fifth shutout of the season and was assisted by Spuehler, who registered her second defensive save of the season. Heist made four first-half saves for Dartmouth before Sedlacek stopped one shot in the final half.

The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 25, when they play host to cross-town rival Harvard. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
