Field Hockey Returns to Action with Home Contest vs. UMBC

After a week-long break from its schedule, the Boston University field hockey team returns to action with a home contest against UMBC on Saturday, Oct. 7. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Home, Sweet Home: Boston University will look to extend a four-game win streak and keep its home record perfect when it welcomes UMBC to Jack Barry Field for an America East contest on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Terriers are 4-0 at home this season and have outscored their opponents 9-1 in those contests. BU is 12-1 in its last 13 games at Jack Barry Field. Series History: The Terriers and Retrievers have met in each of the past three seasons, with BU coming away victorious in each contest, including a 6-0 road shutout last season. The teams’ last meeting at Jack Barry Field on Oct. 15, 2004, resulted in a 3-0 victory for the Terriers. Scouting the Retrievers: UMBC will be looking to end a four-game losing streak and brings a record of 1-9 into today’s contest. The Retrievers opened their America East schedule with a 5-1 home loss to Vermont on Sept. 30 and their lone win came in the way of a 2-0 shutout against St. Francis (Pa.). Four different UMBC players have recorded multiple goals this season, including freshman Mary Strain, who shares the team lead in points (5) with sophomore Amanda Yanulevich. America East Update: After one weekend of conference play, BU, Albany and Vermont sit at the top of the standings with 1-0 records, while Maine, UMBC and New Hampshire are all 0-1. Junior Mints: Of the 52 points recorded by the Terriers this season, 35 have come from the junior class. Junior Sarah Shute leads the way with team highs of six goals and 15 points, while classmate Pam Spuehler has been credited with a team-best four assists. Up Next: The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they visit Vermont in what could be a battle for first-place in the league standings. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
