Banuelos Knocks In Game-Winner As Field Hockey Beats Yale, 1-0



NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior midfielder Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, Calif.) broke a scoreless tie with a goal with 18:54 left in the game to give the Boston University field hockey team a 1-0 non-conference win at Yale's Johnson Field on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Boston University evened its record at 5-5, while Yale dropped to 2-6 (0-3 Ivy League).

Banuelos' goal, her third of the season, was assisted by junior midfielder Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich.).

The two teams battled to a statistical draw in the first half. Each team took two shots, and B. U. had a slim 3-2 lead in penalty corners. The momentum swung in the direction of the Terriers in the second half, however, as the visiting team outshot the Bulldogs, 14-2, and had 11 corners while Yale did not earn a single chance. Overall, the Terriers enjoyed a 16-4 edge in shots, as well as a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, N. H.) made three saves to earn her first shutout of the season. Yale's junior goalkeeper Krissy Nesburg made 10 saves in defeat. Sophomore forward Kara Rossi (North Salem, N. Y.) led the Terriers' offensive attack with five shots.

The Terriers host the University of Rhode Island in a non-conference game on Sunday, Oct. 6 at MIT's Jack Barry Field. Game time is 3 p.m.
