Michigan Pushes Win Streak to Eight With Shutout of B. U.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Boston University field hockey team was defeated by the No. 2 University of Michigan by a 3-0 margin in a non-conference game at Michigan's Ocker Field. The Terriers have dropped five of six games after beginning the season 2-0. Michigan (9-1) dominated the contest, outshooting the Terriers, 28-3, including 16-2 in the first half en route to taking a 2-0 advantage at the half. UM also pushed the B. U. defense with 13 penalty corners to just three by the Terriers. Senior forward Molly Powers got the Wolverines on the board 5:16 into the contest when she chipped in a rebound on a penalty corner. Junior forward April Fronzoni added another marker at 16:40 when junior defender Kristi Gannon found her at the left side of the circle. Fronzoni flicked the shot towards B. U. senior goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, N. H.), who had the ball deflect off her and into the cage. The Wolverines put the game away with a second-half score by sophomore forward Adrienne Hortillosa at 40:15 to make the score 3-0. Harrington made nine saves in 61:33 of action, giving up three goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Jodie Gardner (Unionville, Conn.) replaced her in the final 8:27. Michigan's sophomore goalkeeper, Molly Maloney, did not see a shot during the afternoon but recorded her fourth shutout of the year. B. U. (4-4) plays Ball State University, ranked in the "also receiving votes" category of this week's NFHCA poll, on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. The game will be played at the University of Michigan's Ocker Field.
