Field Hockey Set to Face Cross-Town Rival Northeastern
BOSTON - After getting back on track with a home victory over UMass on Sunday, the Boston University field hockey team (3-4) will look to get back to .500 when it welcomes cross-town rival Northeastern (3-3) to Jack Barry Field on Friday, Sept. 22, for a 3 p.m. contest. Home, Sweet Home: Boston University enters the middle contest of a three-game homestand with an afternoon matchup against cross-town rival Northeastern. The Terriers are 2-0 at home this season and have won 10 of their last 11 games at Jack Barry Field. Series History: Last season at Northeastern, the Huskies earned a 2-1 overtime victory to take a 22-16 lead in the all-time series. Northeastern has won six of the last seven meetings, with the lone exception being the last regular-season meeting at Jack Barry in 2004, when the Terriers posted a 2-0 victory over the then-No. 10 Huskies. Scouting the Huskies: Like the Terriers, Northeastern is coming off a home victory over UMass, as the Huskies held off the Minutewomen by a 4-2 count on Saturday. After opening the season with a dominating 5-0 shutout victory over UNH, the Huskies dropped three consecutive games to Penn State (1-5), Boston College (2-5) and Providence (2-3). NU rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross before picking up the win on Saturday. Three Huskies have tallied 10 points or more this season, including senior Sarah Eckhoff, who has a team-high 13 points on four goals and five assists. Sophomore Ashley Bascetta leads Northeastern in goals with five, while senior Whitney Shean has earned a team-best six assists.
Balanced Attack: Through seven games, the Terriers have had offensive production up and down the roster as 11 different players have tallied at least one point this season. Also, seven different Terriers have scored at least one goal. Conference Honor: After tallying her first career goal just over five minutes into the win over UMass, redshirt freshman Gabby Hajjar was named the America East Rookie of the Week, as was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Up Next: The Terriers will close out their three-game homestand on Sunday when they welcome Virginia to Jack Barry Field for a 1 p.m. contest. The two teams have met just once before, a 1-0 road victory by the Terriers in 1985.
