Women Rowers Open Season On High Note At Connecticut
The 2003-04 season opened on a high note for a number of the Terrier women's crews as the novice women's eight and one of the women's pair won their races at the Head of the Connecticut Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 12. The novice eight beat a field of 14 boats en route to winning its event in 20:43.9, almost two minutes faster than runnerup Fordham, which was timed in 22:35.1. UMass was third in 23:35.5, while Brown was fourth in 23:58.2. The Terrier boat comprised of Meghan Neufeld at stroke, Megan Longo in the seven seat. Lauren Priest was at six, Jessica Hayden at five, Caitlin Durkin at four, Stephanie Geihe at three, Kate Zultner at two, and Heidi Seib in the bow seat. Christine Neville was the cox. The B.U. A pairs of Rachel Heckl and Leanna Berger won their race in 21:34.2, which was just four-tenths of a second faster than the Riverside Boat Club. A second B.U. pairs, Megan Keyes and Amanda Milburn, was third in 21:50.1. In all, nine crews were entered in the event. The Terriers also had a boat entered in the Championship Fours event, and it finished third in 21:13.5. The group included Kara Eiber at stroke, Anna Slater at three, Rachel Atkinson at two, Emily Brown in the bow, and Yael Erlitz as the cox. The race, which had 30 boats entered, was won by the Boston College A boat in 21:01.1, while Community Rowing Inc. was second in 21:13.3, just two-tenths of a second ahead of the Terriers.
