Black Bears Use Big Second Half To Run Past Terriers, 73-55

BOSTON - The Maine women's basketball team out-scored Boston University, 45-24, in the second half to earn a 73-55 win over the Terriers at Case Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Kim Corbitt scored a game-high 21 points, all in the second half, as the Black Bears improved to 11-8 on the season and 7-2 in America East play. The Terriers dropped to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

B.U. stifled the Maine offense in the first half, holding the Black Bears to 29.2 percent shooting from the floor. Freshman guard Corinne Jean (Victoriaville, QUE) scored eight of her 11 points before the break as the Terriers held a 31-28 advantage at intermission.

Corbitt led the charge early in the second half, scoring eight of her career-high 21 points in the first seven minutes. Maine used a 13-1 run midway through the period to hedge a 58-48 lead with 5:58 left to play. Maine out-scored B.U., 14-5, over the final 4:05 to earn its fourth consecutive victory over the Terriers. The Black Bears scored 15 of their 45 second-half points from the free throw line. In the game, Maine went to the line 32 times, sinking 25 free throws. B.U. was just 10-of-13 from the line in the game.

Along with Corbitt, Missy Traversi (17 points) and Monica Peterson (15) also registered double-figures in scoring. Peterson grabbed a game-high 11 boards as the two teams each had 35 rebounds.

Senior forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) led the Terriers with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Terriers continue their four-game homestand with a game against first-place Hartford on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1:00 p.m. Next week, the Terriers host UMBC at Case Gym on Thursday, Feb. 10 and Vermont at Agganis Arena on Saturday, Feb. 12. The game against the Catamounts will be the first-ever women's basketball game at Agganis, and will be the first game in a basketball doubleheader. The B.U. and Vermont women's basketball teams will play at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4:00 p.m.
