Undermanned, Terriers Find A Way To Win At Hartford, 50-41
West Hartford, CT - Despite missing leading scorer Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) and Marisa Moseley (Longmeadow, MA) from the starting line-up with the flu, the Boston University women's basketball team won its fourth straight game, defeating host Hartford, 50-41, on Wednesday night (Jan.30) at the Chase Family Arena. Without the services of Terhune and Moseley, who combine to average 27.9 points per game, the Terriers (12-7, 5-3) stole the game on the defensive end, holding the Hawks to a season-low 41 points on 30.0 percent shooting from the field. "We were without Katie, our leading scorer, and Mo, who is an emotional leader and a defensive presence," said Terrier head coach Margaret McKeon. "We showed a lot of character and came away with a win." Sophomore guard Courtney Jones (Lafayette Hills, PA) led three Terriers in double figure scoring with 12 points and senior guard Dia Dufault (Malone, NY) had a career- and game-high 13 rebounds. It took over five minutes for B.U. to hit its first field goal, as the Terriers waited for someone to step up in the absence of Terhune, the league's leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points per game. Freshman forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) ended the drought, hitting a turnaround jumper from the lane, sparking a 9-3 Terrier run to give B.U. an 11-5 advantage at 6:44 in the first half. Junior guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) hit two three-pointers in the last four minutes, as the Terriers led 24-18 at the break. Norris extended the Terrier lead to 34-24 when she hit a lay-up despite a foul by LaQuanda Brickhouse and converted the three-point play. Hartford answered with an 11-1 run over the next six minutes, with Kelly Ann Charles sinking a free throw to tie the game at 35-35 at 7:19. But the Terriers slowed down the Hawks for the remainder of the game, allowing just six Hartford points in the closing seven minutes. B.U. held Hartford's leading scorer Janeka Lopp to 11 points on 5-of-19 shooting. The Terriers dominated Hartford on the glass, out-rebounding the Hawks, 44-31. "The play wasn't great on both ends, but we really rebounded the ball well," said McKeon. "This game says a lot about our program. We've come along way." Norris and freshman forward Larissa Parr (Eua Claire, WI) each had 10 points for B.U.. Dorcas Miller led the Hawks with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Game Notes: The 41 points were the lowest total by a Terrier opponent since B.U. defeated Brooklyn, 91-31, on Feb. 27, 1988...The Terriers improved to 12-2 when leading at halftime.
