Terhune Cashes In As Terriers Squeak By Seawolves, 67-66

BOXSCORE

BOSTON - Senior guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) sank a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining in the game to give Boston University a 67-66 win over visiting Stony Brook at Case Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Terhune scored a team-high 24 points as the Terriers improved to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in league play.

Mykeema Ford had a game- and career-high 31 points for the Seawolves, who dropped to 2-14 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

As the two teams exchanged the lead 12 times during the game, Sherry Jordan drove the lane and hit a jumper to give Stony Brook a 64-62 advantage with 57 seconds left to play.

Off a dish from sophomore guard Rachael Vanderwal (Stoney Creek, ONT), Terhune drained a three-pointer to put B.U. ahead, 65-64, with 50 seconds remaining.

Jordan missed her initial shot in the paint but grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on the put back to give the Seawolves a 66-65 lead with 29 seconds left to play.

Driving the baseline, Terhune was fouled by Stony Brook's Theresa LoParrino and hit the ensuing free throws to give the Terriers their fourth win in five games.

Ford missed a shot from just inside the halfcourt line as time expired.

Terhune, the program's all-time leader in free throws made with 421, hit 11-of-12 from the charity stripe in the win.

Stony Brook held a 28-27 lead after a sloppy first half for both teams. The Seawolves committed 14 of their 23 turnovers before the break while B.U. shot just 32.1 percent from the floor.

Ford hit 7-of-9 from three point range for a game-high 31 points. Sherry Jordan added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Junior forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds while junior forward Becky Bonner (Concord, NH) added 11 points and four boards. Vanderwal finished with eight points, four rebounds, and a game-high four assists.
