SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  – The Boston University wrestling team used wins in six bouts to double up Springfield, 26-13, on Tuesday evening at Blake Arena. With the win, the Terriers improve to 7-6 on the year.

Thanks to wins from freshman Abbie Rush (125), junior Joey Whitaker (133) and sophomore Mike Roberts (149), along with a forfeit win for sophomore Mike Cubillos at 157, the Terriers jumped out to a 17-3 lead through five bouts and never looked back.  

Rush edged Ryan Hannigan by a score of 6-5 before Whitaker gave the Terriers a 6-0 lead with a 6-3 decision against James Squires. Roberts posted an impressive technical fall, shutting out David Hartman in a 17-0 win.

Other winners for BU included freshman A.J. Detwiler, who scored early and often in a 22-7 technical fall against Dave Brown at 174. Sophomore Jim Connors posted a 17-8 major decision against Alex Klinoff at 197.

BU will return to action on Friday, Feb. 9, when it hosts Harvard in a dual that will feature the top two teams in New England.
