Men's Tennis Snaps Six-Game Losing Streak With 5-2 Win Over Fairfield



BOSTON - The Boston University men's tennis team came up with a much-needed 5-2 victory against Fairfield University on Wednesday, March 19 at the B. U. Track and Tennis Center after a tough Colorado road-trip during the team's Spring Break last week.

B. U. finished the trip with an 0-5 record.

The Terriers (2-6), who have been playing well in doubles lately, picked up the first point of the match by winning the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles pairing of senior Jason Vinoles (Port Washington, N. Y.) and senior J. P. Debbink (Oconowomoc, Wisc.) won their match, 8-5, and the team of senior Noel Moossa (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.) and freshman Nick Ganias (Worcester, Mass.) won, 8-1, to give the Terriers the doubles point.

The team was confident and won four singles matches in a row to clinch the victory.

Debbink and junior Geoff Wagner (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) won their singles matches decidedly. Debbink won at the fourth singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Wagner posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the first singles position.

Moossa defeated his opponent, 6-2, 6-1, while Vinoles won in a tough two-set match, 6-3, 7-5, at the fifth position.

The two loses in singles came from junior Adam Siegel (Sudbury, Mass.), 6-2, 6-4 at the second position, and sophomore Chris Kubacki (Warsaw, Poland), 7-5, 6-0, at the sixth position.

The Terriers look to build on their experience in Colorado and their win against Fairfield as they take on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Tuesday March 25. The matches begin at 3 p.m.
