Sigurdsson Leads Men's Soccer Past Hartford 1-0
Box Score | Season Stats With just 16:49 left in regulation, BU drove down into Hartford territory and freshman Richy Dorman (Flintshire, Wales) took a shot that was stopped by Hawk goalkeeper Matt Glaeser. However, Glaeser could not control the rebound, which slipped back out to Dorman. The freshman midfielder tapped the ball to Sigurdsson, who drove it past Glaeser for the game's lone score. Hartford did give the Terriers a scare at 80:16 when the Hawks crossed a ball dangerously close to the goalmouth on an indirect free kick. None of the Hartford players, however, was able to create an opportunity. Despite repeated forays into Hartford's defensive zone in the first half, BU could not get a shot on goal to pressure the Hawks' defense. Senior goalie Zach Riffett (Brenham, Tex.) earned the seventh shut out of his career this evening on a night BU honored its graduating class. BU is now 17-7-1 all-time against Hartford and 7-4-1 in America East play. This game marked the 20th time in the rivalry that the contest was decided by one goal. The Terriers held a pre-game ceremony to honor the seven graduating team members - graduate students Greg Brinkman (Geneva, Ill.) and Moshe Shalchon (Rishon Lezioh, Israel) and seniors Javier Castro (Milwaukee, Wisc.), Steven Gahl (Kensington, Md.), Jarryd Goldberg (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Zach Kirby (Marietta, Ga.), and Riffett. BU closes out the regular season with a game in Orono, Maine, on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. against the University of Maine.
