Men's Soccer Announces Team Awards, Spring Schedule
BOSTON - The Boston University men's soccer team announced its spring schedule and its 2006 season team award-winners at the banquet held on Saturday, Feb. 3. This spring, the Terriers potentially face two teams who earned berths in the 2006 NCAA Tournament - Providence and Rhode Island. BU hosts the Friars at 1 p.m. on March 24, and the Rams tentatively are scheduled for April 21 at 1 p.m. The Terriers renew local rivalries in the other two spring games. BU will meet former America East foe Northeastern on March 31 at 3 p.m. Boston College come to Nickerson Field looking for revenge after BU defeated the Eagles on Aug. 25 in overtime, 2-1. Senior Steve Gahl (Kensington, Md.) sent a 40-yard strike into the net to give the Terriers their first win over BC since 1998 and cap a come-from-behind victory. The goal was named "Goal of the Year" by collegesoccernews.com. All games will be held at home. Senior Zach Kirby (Marietta, Ga.), sophomores Jin Oh (Dededo, Guam) and Dan Schultz (Cincinnati, Ohio), and freshman Richy Dorman (Flintshire, Wales) all were honored by the BU team for their achievements. Kirby earned team MVP recognition for his efforts in the backfield. The senior led a defense that posted eight shut outs and limited opponents to 12 total goals for the year, one short of the program record. Oh received Most Improved honors. The sophomore was the team's second-leading scorer with five goals and one assist to total 11 points a year after registering just three total shots. Schultz earned his second straight Scholar-Athlete award for demonstrating excellence not only on the field but in the classroom, and Dorman was named BU's Most Outstanding Freshman. The Wales native posted an assist from the midfield while acting as a major influence in the flow of the game. The Terriers finished the year 10-4-5 overall, 4-3-1 in the conference. BU earned a berth in the America East Tournament, reaching the semifinals but falling in penalty kicks to Binghamton, 6-5.
