Spang Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week; Fields Named To League Honor Roll
![]() Dan Spang was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week. Freshman defenseman Dan Spang (Winchester), who enjoyed his first collegiate multiple-point game with a pair of assists in the Terriers' 4-1 win over Rensselaer on December 10th, has been named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week. In addition, junior goalie Sean Fields (Edmonton, ALTA), who stopped 24-of-25 shots en route to picking up his eighth win of the season, was named to the league Honor Roll. For Spang, this is the first time in his Terrier career that the league has honored him with a weekly award. He went into the Rensselaer game with a goal and an assist as he had played in 11 of the Terriers' first 16 games. With the scored knotted at 1-1 late in the second period, Spang picked up the first of his two assists when he helped Mark Mullen (Dorchester) score what proved to be the game-winner. Then, midway through the third period, he earned his second assist on Matt Radoslovich's (Wanaque, NJ) insurance goal. This is the second time this year that Hockey East has honored a Terrier freshman. In the first week of the season, freshman Jekabs Redlihs (Riga, Latvia) was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Terriers' winning effort at the Ice Breaker Tournament. He scored the game-tying goal in the third period of the 4-4 overtime tie against Northern Michigan game in the tournament opener on October 11th. By virtue of winning the post-game shootout, the Terriers advanced to the title game where they skated to a 5-1 win over Rensselaer. In that game, Redlihs has two assists. ![]() Sean Fields earned his third weekly award with his performance against RPI. For Fields, this is the third time this year he has been named to the league honor roll. The first time came after the Terriers swept Northeastern and New Hampshire on November 1-2. In the 7-6 win over Northeastern on November 1st, he had 21 saves, while he came back the next night to turn aside 42 shots in the Terriers' 3-2 win. His second weekly honor roll came after he stopped 36-of-38 shots in the Terriers' 3-2 win over UMass-Lowell on November 21st.
