Men's Ice Hockey Earns No. 1 Seed, Will Meet Nebraska Omaha in NCAA First Round

Full Bracket

BOSTON – The No. 3/4 Boston University men’s ice hockey team earned a top-seed for the upcoming NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship and will take on fourth-seeded Nebraska Omaha in the first round of the tournament, as announced today by the NCAA. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. Also joining the Terriers and Mavericks in the Northeast Regional will be second-seeded Miami (Ohio) and third-seeded Boston College.

The winners of the two first-round games in Worcester will move on to play in the regional final on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

The Terriers have not gone into the NCAA tournament with a No. 1 seed since 1998. Since splitting into east and west regional format in 1992, BU has been a top seed four times (1994, 1995, 1996 and 1998). The team finished the regular season on a 16-2-2 run and is now 20-2-2 in the last 24 outings with a six-game win streak and nine-game unbeaten streak. In addition, the Terriers won their first Hockey East regular-season title since 2000 and their first league championship since 1997.

The other No. 1 seeds in the 16-field tournament are Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State, which will play in Green Bay, Wis., Grand Forks, N.D. and Albany, N.Y., respectively. The WCHA, CCHA and Hockey East all got four teams into the mix, while the ECACHL received two bids and Atlantic Hockey and College Hockey America each got their tournament champions in with an autobid.
