Men's Basketball Set to Face Albany In AE Semifinals

BOSTON - The No. 3-seeded Boston University men's basketball team (12-17) will face the No. 2-seeded Albany Great Danes in the second America East Tournament semifinal slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, at Agganis Arena.

DOGFIGHT: Boston University holds an 8-4 lead in the series. BU won the fi rst eight games before Albany swept the Terriers in the last four meetings between the teams. BU's biggest win was on Feb. 5, 2003 when the
Terriers defeated the Great Danes 78-50 in Case Gym. There has been one overtime game in the series, on Jan. 30, 2005. BU prevailed 48-47 at home.

SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES:
UA is led by Jamar Wilson's 18.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He is joined in double figures by Jason Siggers (13.9 ppg) and Brent Wilson (11.3). The Great Danes are on a three-game win streak, which includes a 73-63 win over Boston University
in Albany, N.Y. on Feb. 25.

THE LAST TIME VERSUS ALBANY (L, 73-63; 2/24/07): BU freshman Corey Lowe scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three, to earn America East Player of the Game honors. Albany's Jamar Wilson led
all players with 29 points. Albany opened the second half on a 10-4 run to take a 46-36 advantage at 16:49. BU responded with a 16-2 rally and held a 52-48 edge with 10:28 left, but Wilson and Jon Iati combined to hit four 3-pointers to swing the lead back to Albany for good.

STORYLINES:
• BU and Albany have never met in an America East Tournament game.
• BU will be out for revenge as UA swept the Terriers in both meetings earlier this season. The Great Danes earned a 52-50 win at Case Gym on Jan. 24 and a 73-63 victory in Albany Feb. 25.
• Red-shirt freshman Tyler Morris appears to have UA's number. The guard averaged 19.5 ppg and shot 51.9 percent from the fl oor (14-for-27) in the prior two meetings. He was also 6-for-11 from behind the 3-point line
(54.5 pct).
• This will be BU's fi rst America East semifinal tournament game since the 2003 season when the Terriers beat Northeastern, 71-61, in the semis before falling to Vermont, 56-55, in the title game.
• BU will need to be on its guard as the Great Danes made 52.9 percent of their threes in the last meeting between both teams - the most an opponent has made all season.
• The last time BU played in the semifinals of the America East Tournament as a No. 3 seed was in 1991 when the Terriers lost 71-58 to Maine.
• BU has a 12-3 record in AE Tournament semifinal match ups.

Valdas Sirutis HAS CAREER GAME VS. BING: The freshman forward scored a career-best 11 points - eight in the first half - to lead BU past Binghamton in the America East Tournament quarterfinals on March 3. He was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor and made just his third
3-pointer of the season.

TALE OF TWO FIRST HALVES: The Terriers appeared to be two different teams in the first half of the quarterfinal win over Binghamton. BU started the game cold, going just 1-for-6 in the first seven and a half minutes, but the Terriers rebounded and finished the half shooting 10-for-23
(43.5 pct).

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM:
With Saturday night's win over Binghamton, BU swept a three-game series for the first time since the 2003 season. That year the Terriers beat New Hampshire three times by an average of 22.6 points.

LAST TIME OUT (BU 62, BINGHAMTON 58; 3/3/07): The Terriers shook off early jitters and fought back from two 12-point deficits to win their fi rst America East Tournament quarterfinal game since 2003. Freshman Valdas Sirutis had a career-high 11 points for the Terrriers, as BU played lock-down defense in the final six minutes of the game to hold off the Bearcats. Omari Peterkin and Corey Lowe each had blocks on two straight Binghamton possessions before the four minute mark, and Scott Brittain
pulled down a key defensive rebound with 31 seconds left to preserve the win.

BINGHAMTON NOTES:

• The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Terriers.
• Head coach Dennis Wolff is now solely in second place for most tournament victories with 15. He is behind Bill Herrion of Drexel/UNH, who has 19.
• BU improves to 3-9 in games decided by five or fewer points and 1-13 in games where the Terriers trail with five minutes left in the game.
• Four Terriers scored in double figures for the first time since the 67-63 loss to UMBC on Feb. 18. In that game, Scott Brittain (10), Omari Peterkin (13), Corey Lowe (19), and Carlos Strong (15) accomplished the feat.
• The BU bench out-scored the Binghamton reserves 23-4, tying the Terriers' largest margin of the season (19) set against George Washington on Nov. 10.
• BU came back from two 12-point leads - one in each half - using a 16-5 run in the first half and a 13-2 run in the second to keep erasing the Bearcats' leads.
• This win marked BU's first win at Agganis Arena since Jan. 22, 2006 when the Terriers hung on for a 43-41 win over Vermont during the regular season.

BU 3-4 VERSUS NO. 2 SEEDS:
The Boston University Terriers are 3-4 all-time against teams seeded second in the America East Tournament. BU's last win over a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament came during the 2003 campaign when the Terriers defeated UNH in the quarterfi nals (75-61) and Northeastern in the semis (71-61).
