Northwestern 6, South Carolina 1
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Second-seeded Northwestern got an early two-run home run from sophomore Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola), then took advantage of a trio of South Carolina miscues to run away from the Gamecocks, 6-1, in the first game of the NCAA Super Regional.

With the win in the best two-of-three series, the Wildcats (49-11) move to within one victory of a return trip to the Women's College World Series. USC (38-25) must win game two Saturday then an if-necessary contest to advance. Full Story...

Baylor 9, Michigan 0
WACO, Texas -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan softball team was pushed one loss away from postseason elimination after suffering a 9-0, five-inning loss against No. 8 Baylor on Friday evening (May 25) at Getterman Stadium. It was just the Wolverines' third shutout loss of the season and their first run-rule defeat in four years.

Baylor first baseman Ashley Monceaux went 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and five runs batted in. Her latter home run -- a three-run shot over the rightfield fence -- gave the Bears the necessary advantage to end the game prematurely in the bottom of the fifth. Full Story...
