Five Big Ten Teams Earn Bids to Women's NCAA Championship

The bracket for the 2007 Division I NCAA Women's Soccer Championship was announced on Monday, Nov. 12 by the Women's Soccer Committee, with five Big Ten squads among the 64-team field. Illinois, Indiana ,Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue will all compete in first-round action on Friday, November 16. This marks the 12th consecutive year the conference has received at least three NCAA bids. Big Ten Champion and No. 1 seed Penn State will make its 13th consecutive NCAA appearance. Penn State owns a conference-best NCAA record of 26-11-1 with three third-place finishes. The NIttany Lions will host first-and-second round action facing Monmouth on Friday. 2007 Big Ten Tournament Champion Purdue will make its fifth appearance in the last six years as the No. 2 seed hosts Oakland in its opening-round game. The Boilermakers are coming off their first conference tournament title. Illinois earns its fifth consecutive and seventh overall postseason appearance. The Illini will travel to South Bend, Ind., to face Louisville on Friday. First-and second-round contests are hosted by No. 4 seed Notre Dame. Illinois' best run in the tournament came in 2004 when it advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to No. 4 Santa Clara. In other first-round action, Ohio State will make its fourth overall postseason appearance when it travels to University Park, Pa., to take on Hofstra. Indiana rounds out the Big Ten teams in the field as it returns to the NCAA Tournament after an eight-year hiatus. The Hoosiers will be squaring off against the Mid-American Conference Tournament Champions Toledo. The 26th annual NCAA Division I Women's College Cup will be played December 7 and 9 at Aggie Soccer Stadium in College Station, Texas and will be hosted by Texas A&M.
