Northwestern and Minnesota to Represent Big Ten at NCAA Championships

Complete Release in PDF Format Big Ten champion Northwestern and Minnesota will represent the conference at the 2006 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. The event will be held from May 31-June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The University of Portland is the host institution for this year's event. For the Wildcats, who are currently ranked 17th nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin, this will be their fifth trip to the NCAA National Championships under head coach Pat Goss and their 22nd overall. Recently under Goss, NU made four consecutive trips from 1997 to 2000, placing seventh, 19th, third and fourth, respectively. The Golden Gophers, ranked 28th nationally, qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2003. Minnesota advances to its 27th NCAA appearance and its seventh visit since 1998, the most of any northern school. The Gophers won the national title in 2002. Minnesota and Northwestern have also accounted for the last two conference NCAA champions. The Gophers' James McLean won the title in 1998 and was followed by Northwestern's Luke Donald in 1999.
