BGSU Bests Butler, 5-2

TOLEDO, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University tennis team swept the doubles point and won four singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over Butler University Sunday afternoon (Feb. 25). The non-conference dual match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club. With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-4 in dual-match play on the season. BGSU won for the fifth time in as many matches at Shadow Valley this season, and the Brown and Orange finish the month of February with a 4-1 record. The Falcons began the match with a sweep of the three doubles contests. Senior Ashley Jakupcin teamed up with sophomore Libby Harrison for a dominant performance at the third flight, as the duo posted an 8-0 win. Soph Kelsey Jakupcin and junior Jenna Nussbaum were victorious at the top flight, while junior Andrea Volle and freshman Katia Babina won at flight number-two as BG picked up the sweep. In singles action, Ashley Jakupcin was a straight-sets winner over Molly Casperson at the top flight, while sister Kelsey lost only two total games in her third-flight decision over Michelle Hawes.
Sophomore Stefanie Menoff lost a total of only three games in a sweep of BU's Carrie Rachon at the fifth flight, while Volle dropped only one game in a sixth-flight sweep of Ashley Harrison.
Babina split her two sets with BU's Becky Jenkins at the fourth flight, before Jenkins eked out an 11-9 win in the tiebreaker. Nussbaum dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Tiffany McLoughlin in her second-flight match. The Falcons are idle from match competition for three weeks, returning to Shadow Valley on March 18 to face Wright State.
