Women's Tennis Downed By Air Force, 6-1

Feb. 23, 2001

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Air Force Academy picked up wins at the top-five singles flights and all three doubles matches to record a 6-1 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team Friday night (Feb. 23). The non-conference match was held in Colorado Springs.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 1-8 in dual play this year. Air Force is now 6-2.

BGSU's lone winner was senior Tracy Howitt, who captured a match in straight sets at the sixth flight.

BGSU's other singles competitors, in order from flights one to five, were seniors Meghan Rhodes, Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski, and freshmen Lisa Maloney and Gaby Coello.

In doubles action, the top BGSU flight of Bratton and Wasilewski lost a narrow 8-6 decision to their USAFA foes. BGSU's other teams included Maloney and fellow freshman Jessica Johnson at the second flight, and the Rhodes/Coello at #3.

The Falcons will remain in Colorado Springs for a neutral-site match vs. Sam Houston State Saturday (Feb. 24).
